Four individuals are competing to fill a vacant seat on Georgia’s National Communications Commission (ComCom), the regulatory body overseeing the country’s broadcasting and communications sector.
The applicants are:
- Ani Vazagashvili, head of legal departments at TV companiesImedi and Maestro
- Giorgi Elisashvili, financial director atGDS since 2013
- Solomon Ekvitimishvili, current head of finance at a media holding company
- Ioseb Abuladze, head of internal audit atOpen Heart University Hospital, with prior experience at ComCom from 2000 to 2016
The vacancy was announced on February 11, with applications closing on March 12, as the term of current commission member Vakhtang Abashidze comes to an end.
Under the official selection process, the commission will submit a shortlist of at least three candidates to the governmentwhich will forward it to the president. The final appointment will then require parliamentary approval, ensuring checks and oversight in the appointment of the new regulator.
