Former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili, who is accused of failing to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Georgian Parliament, was granted a 20,000-GEL bail as a preventive measure and was prohibited from crossing the Georgian border until the end of the consideration of the case.
The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Lela Maridashvili. Based on her decision, Okruashvili was given 30 days to pay the bail.
Today’s session discussed the imposition of a preventive measure against Okruashvili.
The prosecutor’s office requested the use of a 20,000-GEL bail and a ban on crossing the Georgian state border, while the defense requested that he be released without a preventive measure.
Irakli Okruashvili was summoned to give an explanation to the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament on March 26, where he refused to appear, after which the former Defense Minister was summoned to the Tbilisi City Court to give testimony, and he answered the questions of the investigative agency before a magistrate judge.
Okruashvili was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to “failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia.” This action is punishable by a fine, or imprisonment for a term of up to one year, or deprivation of the right to hold a position or engage in an activity for a term of up to three years.
