The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the EU–Georgia Human Rights Dialogue, planned for 21 November in Brussels, has been postponed by the EU side just days before the meeting.
Ministry says the decision comes despite the fact that the Georgian side considered the dialogue an important opportunity for engagement, especially after the EU Council’s 27 June 2024 conclusions that effectively suspended political dialogue with Georgia at all levels.
In its statement, the Ministry notes that Tbilisi had carried out “significant preparatory work” and formed a delegation involving all relevant agencies, but Brussels postponed the meeting “with a completely unacceptable and unjustifiable pretext.”
“The use of this issue for yet another round of speculation raises serious doubts and creates the perception that the European External Action Service was not driven by a sincere desire to hold the meeting – Brussels is not ready to hear Georgia’s well-reasoned positions,” the Ministry said.
It added that Georgia remains committed to constructive engagement and will consider participation in future dialogue formats once the EU fully restores the suspended channels.
