Figure skating: Georgia’s Davis and Smolkin perform rhythmic dance at Olympic Games

The team competition in figure skating has officially begun at the Winter Olympic Games, currently underway in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Representing Georgia in the rhythmic (short) dance segment of the team event, ice dancers Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin delivered a confident performance, earning 78.97 points. Their result currently places Georgia fifth overall, bringing the national team 5 points in the team standings.

The team event in figure skating combines performances across multiple disciplines — men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs, and ice dance — with skaters competing in short and free programs to accumulate points for their country. Strong early results are crucial, as only the top teams advance to the final stages.

Georgia’s campaign at the Olympics continues later today, with Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava set to compete in the pairs short program. In women’s singles, Anastasia Gubanova will take to the ice, aiming to add further points to Georgia’s overall team score.

Georgia has emerged as a consistent contender in international figure skating in recent years, particularly in ice dance and pairs, and the current Olympic performances underline the country’s growing presence on the sport’s biggest stage.

The figure skating team competition will continue over the coming days, with decisive free programs expected to shape the final medal standings.
