As the European Youth Olympic Festival concluded in Bakuriani, Spyros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees, presented the medals to contenders on Sunday.
In recognition of exceptional performances, Capralos also awarded Italy’s Daniel Pedranzini and Slovakia’s Michaela Strakova the Nodar Kumaritashvili Award, as the festival’s best male and female athletes. The award holds the name of a late Georgian luger who passed away during the Vancouver Winter 2010 Olympics.
Georgia earned one medal in the competition from 16-year-old figure skater Inga Gurgenidze who made history by securing the country’s first-ever gold in the discipline.
Italy won the highest number of medals, totaling 16 (seven gold, six silver, three bronze), succeeded by France with 19 and Switzerland with 11.
During the concluding ceremony, the event flag was given to Romania, the host nation for the festival’s next edition.
