Opposition politician Gigi Ugulava and 7 other people arrested for attempting to block a strategically important facility near Tbilisi Mall have been granted bail in various amounts, meaning they will be released after paying the money.
Gigi Ugulava, Dimitri Bidzinashvili, Irakli Tabatadze, Irakli Tsignadze, and Aleksandre Gogoladze will be released on a bail of 5,000 GEL, Nikoloz Kumsishvili – 4,000 GEL, and Vasil Eliava and Nikoloz Kutubidze – 3,500 GEL.
The above decision was made by judge of the Tbilisi City Court, Davit Kurtanidze.
At today’s trial, the accused noted that they had not committed any crime, yet the detainees were charged under Article 19-222 of the Criminal Code, which refers to an attempt to block a strategic or special-importance facility as a group.
On February 2, law enforcement officers detained a total of 31 people under administrative rules during the protest rally near Tbilisi Mall, however, on February 4, charges against 8 people, including opposition politician Gigi Ugulava, were re-classified under the Criminal Code.
The charges provide for 2 to 4 years of imprisonment.
