The Tbilisi City Court has found Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, guilty of an administrative offense and imposed a 5,000 GEL fine.
The case stemmed from Melia’s administrative detention near Lisi Lake earlier this year.
During the hearing, the Ministry of Internal Affairs presented two police officers as witnesses. They testified that Melia had verbally insulted police officers, an accusation that Melia denied.
Melia told the court that about 50 police officers were involved in his detention, a claim the witnesses refuted, stating that only three officers participated in the arrest.
He was detained in May under Article 173 of Georgia’s Administrative Offenses Code, which penalizes verbal insults or other offensive actions directed at law enforcement officers.
