CEC regrets OSCE/ODIHR absence but highlights active observer participation

Central Election Commission (CEC) spokesperson Natia Ioseliani expressed regret that the OSCE/ODIHR will not observe Georgia’s upcoming local elections, despite an offer for them to monitor the October 4 vote.

Speaking at a press conference hosted by the Kvira Media Holding Press Club, Ioseliani stressed the importance of observation for ensuring a healthy electoral environment.

“At this stage, 16 international and 9 local observer organizations have already been registered. We welcome all organizations that submit the required documentation within the legal deadlines,” she said.

Ioseliani claimed that the registration deadlines are September 24 for local observers, September 27 for international observers, and September 29 for media accreditation. She emphasized that the CEC remains open to all qualified organizations and values the participation of both local and international monitors in the election process.

Maria Telalian, Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), announced that the organization will not be able to deploy an election observation mission to Georgia due to the country’s late invitation, issued just weeks before the vote.
