NCDC Head on ‘Delta’ Strain: It’s Recommended that Parents be Vaccinated Twice

Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, stated the global epidemic situation is deteriorating due to the emergence of new strains, but he noted that the new strain circulating in the United Kingdom with a high percentage and which also has appeared in a number of countries, including Russia, has not been seen in Georgia yet.

“So far, no new strain has been detected in our laboratory studies. This is also a kind of “Delta”, Delta+,” Gamkrelidze said.

He noted that the Lugar Lab is constantly studying samples taken from different clinics, and their genetic modifications. They have daily information on whether any atypical mutations have been identified that may be associated with these new strains. So far, none have been identified.

Gamkrelidze says that now the main discussion is about green passports, what type of framework should be introduced in the country. He added that in the immunization process, those who reached more than 50 and 60 percent have some additional leverage.
