Military serviceman dies from suspected heart attack during the ongoing works in Oni disaster zone

In Oni, a military serviceman is thought to have died from a heart attack while working in the disaster area.

“The Ministry of Defense of Georgia expresses deep sorrow over the death of the senior instructor of the 10th Territorial Defense Brigade of the National Guard, Temur Kharchilava, born in 1973. On August 29, 2023, the instructor of the 2nd training course of the training center “Sorta” was performing his duty in Shovi, Oni municipality, and during the ongoing rescue work, he died presumably from a heart attack.

The Ministry of Defense once again expresses its sorrow over the death of Temur Kharchilava and extends condolences with the family, relatives, and colleagues of the deceased,” the statement reads.

The Ministry of Health issues a statement regarding the death of a military serviceman in the disaster zone in Oni, which was presumably caused by a heart attack.

As the agency explains, the emergency situation coordination and emergency aid center brigade arrived at the scene 10 minutes after receiving the notification, but the doctors found the military serviceman dead.

“In connection with the death of a military serviceman, presumably due to a heart attack, during the ongoing work in the disaster area, we clarify that the brigade of the emergency situations coordination and emergency assistance center arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving the notification (10:55 a.m.) (11:05 a.m.), but the doctors, unfortunately, found the soldier dead. Accordingly, the information spread by individual media, as if the death of a military serviceman is related to delayed or improper medical services, is not true and aims to discredit the center for coordination of emergency situations and emergency assistance.

To inform the public, we would like to explain that four ambulance brigades are constantly working in different locations in the disaster area. Also, two ambulances are mobilized near the primary health care centers of Oni and Ambrolauri.

The center for coordination of emergency situations and emergency assistance expresses its grief over the death of a military serviceman and extends condolences to the family members of the deceased,” the statement reads.
