Trump says war in Ukraine must end, acknowledges deep hostility between Putin and Zelensky

US President Donald Trump said that efforts are ongoing to bring an end to the war in Ukraine, acknowledging what he described as “enormous hatred” between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Trump said discussions related to the conflict are underway and expressed optimism about their progress.

“Between these two leaders, Putin and Zelensky, there is enormous hatred. We are talking. Everything is going well. The war must stop,” Trump said, shows the footage published on the White House YouTube channel.

When asked whether he would push for Christmas to serve as a firm deadline for reaching a peace agreement, Trump did not commit to a specific timeline, instead emphasizing his hope that the conflict would come to an end.

“I hope the conflict will end,” he said.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that he could help broker a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine, arguing that the war would not have started during his presidency. His comments come amid continued fighting on the battlefield and ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Ukraine’s Western allies, including the United States and the European Union, to support Kyiv while exploring potential paths toward a negotiated resolution.

The war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties, widespread destruction, and the displacement of millions, with no comprehensive peace agreement reached to date.
