US Congressman Joe Wilson has condemned the Georgian Dream government’s recent actions, calling the new charges against opposition leaders “appalling even by its own standards.”
“This sick behavior mirrors the tactics of their patrons in Moscow and Beijing. The anti-American Georgian Dream regime is betraying its people in favor of Moscow, Tehran, and Beijing,” Wilson wrote on X.
Georgia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has initiated criminal proceedings against several opposition figures — including Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nikanor Melia, Zurab “Girchi” Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze.
Prosecutor’s Office says the investigation concerns alleged crimes against the state, specifically sabotage, assisting a foreign power in hostile activities, financing actions directed against Georgia’s constitutional order and national security, and incitement to violently overthrow the government.
