The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the alleged illegal appropriation and embezzlement of property belonging to the Georgian Technical University (GTU). The inquiry was launched following a formal request filed by GTU Rector David Gurgenidze on October 17.
Prosecutor’s Office says the rector reported alleged instances of unlawful privatization involving university-owned real estate — including land plots, buildings, and sports facilities located at 77 Kostava Street in Tbilisi — transferred in favor of LLC “Georgia University.” The suspected actions reportedly occurred through abuse of official authority.
The investigation was formally initiated on October 24 by the Department for Combating Corruption Crimes under Article 182, Part 2 (d) and Part 3 (b) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, relating to large-scale embezzlement.
The Prosecutor’s Office stated that the public will be regularly updated on the progress of the case and subsequent legal assessments.
