The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced civic activist Imeda Kldiashvili to nine days of administrative detention, after recognizing her as an administrative offender.
Based on the ruling by Judge Manuchar Tsatsua, Kldiashvili was found guilty of violating the rules on holding assemblies and demonstrations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs accused her of “artificially blocking” the road on Rustaveli Avenue during a protest. The ministry stated that despite multiple warnings from law enforcement officers, demonstrators, including Kldiashvili, continued to obstruct traffic and refused to comply with police instructions.
The verdict comes amid a wave of administrative detentions following recent protests in Tbilisi, where police reported dozens of violations and several arrests for noncompliance with new legislation tightening regulations on public gatherings.
