The Georgian Embassy in Israel has issued a statement expressing solidarity and joy over the release of hostages held by Hamas.
“Every member of the Georgian Embassy in Israel shares in the joy of the hostages’ families and the entire State of Israel,” the statement reads.
“The return of the hostages is a ray of light and fills us with hope. We wish them a swift recovery and success in continuing their lives. Alongside the joy, sorrow persists for those who have passed away,” the Embassy added.
Reportedly, 20 hostages had been held captive by Hamas. The group released them in two stages — freeing seven hostages in the first phase, who have since arrived in Israel and are undergoing medical examinations at Reim Field Hospital, where they will reunite with their families. The remaining 13 hostages were handed over to the Red Cross and are expected to be released within hours.
In parallel, Israel is preparing to release 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,700 Gazans, including 22 children, as part of the exchange process.
Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza, marking the first major breakthrough in months of devastating conflict. The truce, reached under a peace initiative devised by US President Donald Trump, includes the release of hostages and prisoners as part of its initial phase.
