Georgian Embassy in Spain urges citizens to follow fire safety rules amid wildfires

The Georgian Embassy in Spain is calling on Georgian citizens residing in Spain to comply with local government safety measures in response to the worsening forest fire situation.

The embassy’s statement says the Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs has declared a high-level emergency in multiple regions—namely Galicia, Castile and León, and Extremadura. Citizens are being urged to remain vigilant, steer clear of fire-affected zones, adhere strictly to official guidance, and, if needed, contact the embassy’s hotline at +34 691 387 221, or dial the emergency number 112.

Spain is currently enduring one of the most destructive wildfire episodes in recent memory. Over 115,000 hectares have burned in just the past week in Galicia and Castile and León. The total area affected in 2025 has already nearly doubled the annual average, exceeding 157,000 hectares.

The fires have claimed at least three lives, including volunteer firefighters, and prompted mass evacuations across multiple regions.
