For the first time in the history of the British intelligence service, MI6 will be headed by a woman. Blaise Metreweli, woman with Georgian roots, is preparing to take over the top role in October, becoming the agency’s 18th chief and succeeding current head Richard Moore. Metreweli joined MI6 in 1999 and currently serves as Director General ‘Q’, supervising the organization’s technology and innovation wing. In this capacity, she has led efforts to protect the identities of secret agents and develop advanced tools for avoiding hostile surveillance.
Her appointment has been hailed as a historic milestone by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer who emphasized the significance of her leadership global threats increase.
“I look forward to continuing that work alongside the brave officers and agents of MI6 and our many international partners,” said Metreweli.
