Tbilisi City Hall has announced recent plans to relocate petrol stations operating around the Laguna Vere area near Heroes Square. The news was shared by Mayor Kakha Kaladze at the municipal government meeting Wednesday, seeing him declaring that the area needs modernization and for traffic capacity issues to be resolved.
The Laguna Vere territory has been labeled as a critical spot for the city’s urban development and, despite modernization projects, including a new transport system with additional traffic lanes and advanced lights, negotiations over the petrol stations had failed due to unsuccessful feedback from the station owners, urging City Hall to offer the petrol stations the possibility to relocate.
The Mayor says they will allocate different possible spaces for the stations across Tbilisi, and the Transport and Urban Development Department will complete the project, which will be submitted to the Tbilisi City Assembly for final approval.
Mayor Kaladze highlighted the importance of this move, saying that the area’s current infrastructure does not meet the capital city’s traffic challenges.
