The main Christmas tree on Rustaveli Avenue has been lit up and the New Year illuminations have been also switched on throughout the capital, Tbilisi City Hall reported.
As Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated at the briefing today, traditionally in the first half of December, the New Year illuminations and the main Christmas tree are switched on in Tbilisi, and this tradition will continue this year as well.
“The illuminations will be turned on this evening and the main Christmas tree of the capital will be lit without any ceremony. New Year is everyone’s favorite public holiday and we will not allow anyone to take away the feeling of joy and happiness from our children and fellow citizens. Tbilisi will be the most beautiful New Year city, we will have many festive events during these days and we will meet the new 2025 year as we deserve – with new victories, hope for peace and development,” the Mayor of Tbilisi said.
In parrallel, a pro-European protest rally resumed on Rustaveli Avenue.
Recently, representatives of the literary world, including writers, editors, publishers, book designers, booksellers and people connected with literature joined the protest.
Their demand is to call new elections and release the citizens detained during the protest.
The protest rally on Rustaveli Avenue has been going on for 19 days now, continuously.
The citizens are protesting the decision of the Georgian Dream made on November 28, based on which Georgia will not put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028.
