Patrol Police Chief Vazha Siradze claims that the police are using proportional force against the rally participants. Meanwhile, special forces have been violently detaining citizens gathered on Rustaveli Avenue and deploying tear gas and water cannons against them- for a 5th night in a row.
“You all clearly saw in recent days that units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were stationed near the Parliament to maintain public security.
“They endured the repeated, violent actions and aggression of the rally participants.
“More than 100 police officers were injured as a result of fireworks and various metal objects being thrown, causing serious injuries, some of which required surgical intervention,” he said.
Meanwhile, today the Ombudsman announced they had visited 156 detained rally participants, and 124 of them claim that they were subjected to violence, inhuman treatment, which is almost 80%.
“This is a very disturbing number,” Public Defender Levan Ioseliani said.
