Punitive measures are being taken against young Georgian activists, – President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili wrote on X.
“Punitive measures [are in progress] against young Georgian activists: beatings by police officers, arrests and threats of up to 7 years of imprisonment. One girl is accused of assaulting five police officers!!!” Zurabishvili wrote, sharing a photo of the girl, Lizi Tirkia, who wrote on Facebook: “I got a call from the special investigation service and they tell me that I attacked 5 policemen at the rally, ran away and hid.”
On November 19, on Melikishvili Avenue, during a confrontation between police and participants of the rally, law enforcement officers arrested 16 people. Some of them were released soon after. The court sentenced two to an eight-day administrative detention, and imposed a fine of 2,700 GEL on one of them. In addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs charge one person for attacking the policemen at the protest.
