The Georgian State Security Service (GSSS) reported on Tuesday that Russian military forces illegally apprehended two Georgian citizens near the village of Mejvriskhevi, located in the municipality of Gori, close to the occupied Tskhinvali region.
The GSSS activated its hotline for updates on the incident and alerted the European Union Monitoring Mission and Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions, the division responsible for addressing the consequences of the 2008 war.
They further assured citizens that they are using ‘all existing mechanisms’ to ensure the safety and release of the detained individuals.
