Administration: President’s statement concerned only President of Russia

Head of the Administration of the President of Georgia, Natia Sulava, today met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia.

The statement released by the Presidential Administration reads that at the meeting held in the Orbeliani palace, the head of the Presidential Administration stated that in the interview given to the TV company LCI, in the answer of President Salome Zurabishvili, there was no reference in any way to the relations between Georgia and China or, specifically, to the President of the People’s Republic of China.

“The entire interview was focused on Georgia-EU relations, Georgia and Russia. Accordingly, the President’s answer concerned only the President of the country that has occupied the territories of Georgia,” reads the statement.

For information, the President of Georgia, when asked in an interview with LCI if she “hopes that Putin and also Xi Jinping will ever be tried”, answered that in her inner belief, it “would be a historic result, which would put certain issues in their place”.

“I believe in my inner belief that this would be a historic result, which would put certain issues in their place. If you ask me if I think this is realistic, no,” the President said.

The representatives of “Georgian Dream” have criticized the President for said interview.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and expressed regret for the statement of President Salome Zurabishvili.

Chairman of “Georgian Dream” Irakli Kobakhidze called Zurabishvili’s statement shameful and said that the government had to apologize for it.
