Negotiations between the Georgian Dream and the opposition ended without an agreement.
The mediator of the negotiations, Christian Danielsson, Special Representative of the President of the Council of Europe, will return to Brussels today, March 19.
The ruling party and opposition representatives blame each other for not reaching an agreement, adding that the talks was not a waste of time and certain progress was still achieved.
Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream, accuses the opposition of disrupting the talks, saying that the reason for not reaching an agreement was that the opposition was “run from Kiev.” He said that because of this, the opposition did not have any resources to reach an agreement.
“If there is no agreement today and the mediator leaves the country, only the Georgian Dream is to be blamed,” Giorgi Vashadze, leader of opposition party Strategy Builder, said after the government-opposition meeting mediated by Christian Danielsson, Personal Envoy of the European Council President.
Vashadze noted that the lack of outcome from the meetings and the entire process shows the lack of state approach.
Giga Bokeria, one of the leaders of opposition European Georgia Party, said no agreement could be reached on any issue and peaceful but fierce protest movement should continue in the country.
“Release of political prisoners and early elections will remain key issues for society and the free world, including the European Union,” Bokeria added.
