President: Gov’t members have no right to threaten me, I’ll still do what I consider necessary

I want to tell the members of the government that they have no right to threaten me, because I will do what I think and what I consider necessary, said the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, in her address to the European Parliament.

As she noted, even if the majority ignores the right of veto granted to the President by law, the President will have the hope of people, because, according to her, her decisions are based on the principles that we all agree on.

“Despite the fact that I represent a small country, in my opinion, the power of the President, like other countries, should be respected. The President’s decisions should be free from all internal and external pressure. I want to appeal to the members of the government that they have no right to threaten me, because I will still do what I think and what I consider necessary. I can use the right of veto granted to me by the constitution if any decision of the government hinders the European integration. My veto may be ignored by the current members of the majority, but I believe that the citizens of Georgia will support me, because my decisions echo the principles that we all agree on. I will continue advocating the European integration of Georgia, the way I am doing it today,” said Salome Zurabishvili.
