One of the initiators of the Bill, Eka Sepashvili introduced the general principles of the document, envisaging the harmonization of the EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive in the Georgian legislation.
“These modifications are a result of the commitment outlined in the 23rd annex of the association agreement between Georgia and the European Union. The aforementioned adjustments refer to the incorporation into Georgian law of the directive’s rules on audiovisual services from the European Union. This is our pledge and a move in the right direction toward the enlargement of the European Union. Additionally, modifications are required to ensure full participation in the Creative Europe program,” Sepashvili stated.
As she notes, the draft law will regulate the issues related to hate speech, calls to terrorism, and the right to respond in a new way.
As Sepashvili added, the initiators of the draft law are ready to cooperate with all interested parties in order to further improve the document.
The authors of the legislative initiative are MPs: Giorgi Amilakhvari, Isko Daseni, Bezhan Tsakadze, David Songhulashvili, Eka Sepashvili, Gela Samkharauli, Levan Mgaloblishvili, Baia Kvitsiani, Irakli Mezurnishvili, Beka Odisharia, and Ketevan Dumbadze.
