PM Garibashvili

“Irrespective of the fact that we hear from medical doctors and scientists about the rather mild performance of Omicron, the threat is still high, especially for people of age and those suffering from chronic diseases. That is why it is essential to focus more on this group of people and run promotional campaigns for individuals aged over 50 years, pay them 200 GEL, and all the vaccines stock currently made available in the country be fully used,” announced Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Executive Government Meeting today.

He noted the trend of viral infection is rising this week, relevant sectors are in full readiness, and monitoring of epidemic parameters is being administered in an intensive manner, along with its uninterrupted analysis.

“A rather high daily indicator of community transfer rate has been observed in recent days. Nevertheless, the mortality rate is 1.4%, which is quite low, and declining further this week. It is worth noting that even in the conditions of rising community transfer rate, it has not yet affected the hospital sector and pressure is so far on the laboratories and primary healthcare at the level of out-patient care. We are monitoring the process.

“I wish to use this opportunity and once again urge the population to get vaccinated. I talked with Zurab Azarashvili and it is our wish to get the immunization process extended. In general, we should get the vaccination process rolled out to regions and villages in a more active and intensive manner. Let me remind the citizens of Georgia that we are paying 200 GEL upon the first dose to incentivize vaccination among people aged over 50 years. We wish this process to be further extended and to get vaccines to villages.”

Garibashvili also spoke about opening up the sales market of Turkey for Georgia, calling on importers to timely supply medication to the local market to ultimately drop prices on imported pills.

“As promised, we have opened up the sales market of Turkey. Importers are now expected to timely supply high quality though cheap medication to the Georgian market. We will be monitoring this process. Zurab Azarashvili, Minister of Health, is actively engaged in this process. I wish to once again call the importers to timely supply these pills, which is expected to quickly drop prices on medication in the country,” noted the Prime Minister.
