Evacuation declared in Dariali Valley near Georgia-Russia border

An evacuation has been declared in the Dariali Valley near Kazbegi, close to the Georgia-Russia border.

Georgia’s Interior Ministry said an alert was triggered after a signal was received from the early warning system installed in the Devdoraki Gorge, which detects changes in water flow even when the river level rises minimally.

As a result, citizens, police officers, customs employees, and company representatives were evacuated from the Dariali border crossing. Traffic has also been suspended near the village of Gveleti.

According to the Revenue Service, the Kazbegi customs checkpoint will resume full operations once the risk factors have reduced.
