Live pig imports to Georgia hit record high. In January-June 2026, Georgia imported live pigs worth $20.254 million, the highest figure since 2009. BPN reported the data based on figures from the National Statistics Office of Georgia.
As for the countries of origin, Georgia is entirely dependent on Russia, with 100% of live pigs imported during the first half of this year coming from Russia.
In January-June 2025, live pig imports totaled $15.286 million, around 32.5% lower than this year’s figure. In the first half of 2024, imports were worth $13.358 million, while the figure stood at $11.213 million in the same period of 2023 and $8.397 million in January-June 2022.
Russia’s dominance in Georgia’s live pig imports is not new. According to official statistics, Russia also accounted for 100% of live pig imports into Georgia during the first six months of 2025. In previous years, however, Georgia also imported live pigs from Denmark, Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary and Bulgaria.
