Lasha Purtskhvanidze, the former director of Greenservice+, who was convicted in connection with the 2022 Vake Park tragedy, has been released from prison before completing his sentence.
Purtskhvanidze told TV Pirveli that he was released from the penitentiary on July 15 under electronic monitoring after the parole commission approved his request.
“I left prison yesterday. Yes, I was released wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet. I applied to the parole commission, and that was their decision. I will not return to that company, although I cannot say what I plan to do – the future will show. For now, I am with my family,” he said.
The Vake Park tragedy occurred on October 13, 2022, when 13-year-old Marita Mefarishvili was electrocuted at a newly renovated fountain. Two other teenagers, Andria Lortkiphanidze and Lazare Lobzhanidze, were injured.
The court proceedings were divided into two episodes. In one of them, eight of the nine defendants were found guilty. Purtskhvanidze was sentenced to six years in prison.
The court also sentenced Giorgi Vakhtangishvili, deputy head of Tbilisi City Hall’s Environmental Protection Service, to three years in prison; Devi Kakhoidze to three years; Nugzar Kitiashvili to three years and six months; Davit Tushishvili to three years and six months; Giorgi Gobedjishvili to four years; Lasha Chighitashvili to three years; and Beka Murghvliani to three years. Valeri Gobedjishvili was acquitted.
