NATO allies will reaffirm that Russia poses a long-term threat to the Alliance, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said ahead of the NATO summit.
Speaking to journalists, Rutte said allied leaders are expected to approve the summit declaration, which will explicitly identify Russia as a long-term threat.
“I expect that today all Allies will once again jointly reaffirm that Russia represents a long-term threat to NATO territory. Let’s wait for the declaration to be published, but I expect it will clearly refer to the long-term threat posed by Russia,” Rutte said.
Rutte also commented on the latest US strikes against Iran, describing them as “absolutely necessary.”
“These strikes were absolutely necessary. There is a ceasefire agreement that has been violated. We saw attacks on ships yesterday. I believe the US response was a necessary step,” the NATO Secretary General said.
