Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of the opposition party Droa, will be transferred from Rustavi Women’s Prison to Vivamedi Clinic.
The announcement was made by Giorgi Pataridze, Director General of Georgia’s Special Penitentiary Service, following a meeting with Khoshtaria’s doctors.
Pataridze announced that Khoshtaria is expected to be transferred to Vivamedi within approximately two days.
Concerns over Khoshtaria’s deteriorating health became public on June 17, when her lawyer, Shota Tutberidze, and Droa Executive Secretary Giga Lemonjava stated at a briefing that the politician’s condition had significantly worsened over the past four months while in custody.
Her legal team says Khoshtaria suffers from severe joint pain, has difficulty walking, and requires a cane, and at times struggles even to write. Citing recommendations from Turkish doctors, the defense says that without appropriate medical treatment, her condition could suffer irreversible damage.
