Gakharia’s Party: Georgian Dream has turned Olympic champions into party thugs

Members of the party Gakharia for Georgia have responded to the physical confrontation that took place in parliament during Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s annual report.

Speaking at a briefing, party member Berdia Sichinava accused the ruling Georgian Dream party and the Prime Minister of using violence against political opponents.

“In the Parliament of Georgia, we saw the report of a dishonored, deceitful, and incompetent Prime Minister who cannot face the truth and has decided to fight it through his Georgian Dream thug groups,” Sichinava said.

He claimed that systemic violence had become the ruling party’s “trademark,” adding that Kobakhidze had “finally established himself as a violent Prime Minister.”

“We have always been proud of Olympic champions who brought us so much joy. Unfortunately, Georgian Dream has turned Olympic champions into party thugs. We saw group violence being organized in the Parliament of Georgia. Violence has now reached parliament as well,” Sichinava stated.

He claimed that Georgian Dream has neither the ability nor the competence to reset relations with anyone, as it “physically attacks its own citizens” and responds to truth with violence.

Sichinava also thanked his teammates, saying they had defended the interests of Georgian citizens “with dignity, truth, and words” and had spoken out against occupation in parliament.

The confrontation took place on June 26, during Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s annual address to parliament. Members of Georgian Dream physically confronted two MPs from Gakharia’s party. Following the altercation, an ambulance crew had to be called to parliament.
