The European Union has approved a new package of sanctions against Russia, based on a statement released by the Council of the European Union.
The latest restrictive measures are aimed at further reducing Russia’s energy revenues and weakening its military-industrial complex, while also addressing Moscow’s hybrid activities directed against European countries.
The sanctions package includes restrictive measures against 34 individuals and 47 legal entities linked to Russia’s war effort and activities deemed harmful to European security.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the bloc remains committed to increasing pressure on Moscow in an effort to end the war in Ukraine.
“Today, we approved another package of sanctions to increase pressure on Russia to end its war. These measures target Russia’s military-industrial complex, its shadow fleet, and various networks that facilitate Moscow’s hybrid attacks against Europe,” Kallas stated.
She also confirmed that work is already underway on a broader 21st sanctions package.
The newly adopted measures come as the EU continues to expand its sanctions regime against Russia, targeting key sectors that generate revenue for the Kremlin and support its military operations, while seeking to curb efforts to circumvent existing restrictions.
