Georgia will install special weighing systems on its highways and major roads to monitor the weight of heavy trucks and help protect road infrastructure, Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze has announced.
Sokhadze noted that the new systems will automatically measure and record the weight of freight vehicles traveling on the country’s road network.
“We are working on installing special weighing systems on our highways that will record the weight of heavy trucks. One of the main problems affecting our roads is the movement of overloaded freight vehicles, which causes damage to road infrastructure,” the minister said.
The Ministry of Infrastructure noted that overloaded trucks remain one of the primary causes of premature deterioration of roads and highways, increasing maintenance costs and reducing the lifespan of transport infrastructure.
The introduction of the weighing systems is expected to strengthen monitoring of freight transport, improve road safety, and help preserve the country’s road network by ensuring compliance with weight regulations.
