Georgia imported goods worth $5.7 billion in January-April 2026, down 4.9% year-on-year, the National Statistics Office of Georgia says.
The decline was largely driven by a 23% drop in passenger car imports, linked to a 29% decrease in car re-exports. During the reporting period, Georgia imported cars worth $926 million.
The reduction also follows an increase in excise taxes on vehicles introduced by Parliament from April 1.
Petroleum products ranked second among imports at $471 million, up 19% compared to the same period last year. The increase is mainly linked to higher fuel prices.
Natural gas imports totaled $254 million, marking a 17% annual increase.
Geostat data also shows Georgia imported crude oil worth $118 million this year following the launch of the country’s first full-scale oil refinery, the Black Sea Petroleum plant. In January-April, Georgia exported refined petroleum products worth $324 million.
Geostat data shows that all crude oil imported by Georgia so far this year has come from Russia.
Imports of fittings, medicines and copper ores also increased during the period, while truck imports declined.
