Supermarket chains in Georgia have begun introducing so-called “social baskets,” allowing customers to purchase essential everyday products at discounted prices.
Under the initiative, 15 categories of food products will initially be offered at reduced prices through specially designated sections in stores. The social basket includes staple items such as flour, rice, sugar, buckwheat, chicken, pasta, dairy products, confectionery and other high-demand goods.
Representatives of retail chains say the initiative is focused on products most frequently included in consumers’ everyday shopping baskets. Discounted items will be placed in specially marked areas and accompanied by distinct price indicators to make them easier for customers to identify.
Retail representatives say the discounted product selection will be updated weekly in cooperation with suppliers, with new items and revised prices expected to be introduced regularly.
Additional visual labels and in-store navigation tools will also be used to help shoppers easily locate products included in the promotion.
Representatives of the retail sector note that products included in the social basket may be periodically rotated depending on customer demand, with different brands or product varieties substituted when necessary.
The initiative aims to make essential food products more affordable and accessible for consumers amid rising living costs.
