Monk Nikoloz (Narimani) Makarashvili has been found dead in his apartment in Tbilisi, Georgian authorities confirmed.

An investigation has been launched under Article 115 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to incitement to suicide. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of his death.

At this stage, officials have not publicly confirmed the cause of death, and forensic examinations are expected to determine the exact circumstances. Law enforcement authorities stated that all possible versions are being considered as part of the ongoing investigation.

Monk Nikoloz was known within religious circles, although limited official information about his recent activities or affiliations has been released. The Georgian Orthodox Church has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Article 115 of the Criminal Code is typically applied in cases where there is suspicion that an individual may have been driven to take their own life through psychological pressure, coercion, or other forms of influence. The opening of such an investigation does not in itself confirm the cause of death but indicates the legal framework under which authorities are examining the case.

Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
