The National Statistics Office of Georgia reported that country’s consumer prices continued to rise in March 2026, with annual inflation reaching 4.3%. On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.8% compared to February. Core inflation, which excludes volatile items, stood at 2.8% year-on-year while core inflation excluding tobacco was slightly lower at 2.4%.
The primary driver of inflation remained the food and non-alcoholic beverages category where prices rose by 7.5% annually, contributing 2.57 percentage points to overall inflation.
Significant price increases were recorded across key food items, including:
- Fish: +21.2%
- Fruit and grapes: +13.4%
- Bread and cereals: +9.6%
- Meat: +9.6%
- Oils and fats: +7.7%
Other notable increases were observed in sugar and confectionery (+5.3%), vegetables (+4.9%), dairy products (+4.5%) and beverages such as coffee, tea, and soft drinks (+2.1–3.8%).
Transport prices increased by 4% year-on-year, contributing 0.49 percentage points to inflation. This was driven by higher costs for transport services (+7.3%) and the operation of personal vehicles (+5.7%).
Meanwhile, prices for miscellaneous goods and services rose by 9.8%, adding 0.48 percentage points to the overall index. Within this category, personal effects saw a sharp increase of 58.1%, alongside rises in insurance (+8.5%) and personal care services (+4.3%).
The alcoholic beverages and tobacco category recorded a 6.2% annual increase, contributing 0.39 percentage points to inflation. Prices rose for both tobacco products (+8%) and alcoholic beverages (+4.6%)
