A park of city importance was opened in Zgvis Ubani, Temka district, Tbilisi, yesterday evening.
The press service of the Tbilisi City Hall reports that the event was opened by the group ‘Mix2ra,’ which played a number of popular compositions for the gathered crowd.
The mayor of the capital, Kakha Kaladze, addressed the audience and congratulated the local residents on the opening of the city park in their district.
“A park of city significance is being opened, the largest in the capital,” he said. “When we came here a few years ago, it was unsanitary; a swamp, and we promised the local population that we would build them the coolest, greenest recreational space. Today, this promise has been fulfilled!
“Congratulations to all, and I celebrate the opening with you! The implementation of these projects brings long-term peace to the country. There is no alternative to peace and tranquility.
“We will continue the development of the country, the maintenance, reconstruction and revival of our city, and many more such recreational spaces will be added,” Kaladze said.
He thanked the residents, the project crew and the Mix2ra group for participating in the park’s opening event.
The event was attended by the Chairman of Tbilisi City Council, Giorgi Tkemaladze, Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaya, Nadzaladevi District Governor Irakli Andghuladze, as well as members of the Parliament of Georgia and Tbilisi City Council.
Tbilisi City Hall says the park, of 25 hectares, is the biggest of its kind to be established since Georgia’s independence.
“The park was built on a swampy landfill, for which the city service of environmental protection of the Tbilisi City Hall carried out important and large-scale works.
“Necessary measures for greening were carried out in the territory, and 75,000 plants of different species were planted. The cost of the works amounted to 39,280,534.68 GEL,” Tbilisi City Hall reports.
For the record, Georgian band Mgzavrebi was expected to perform at the park’s opening concert, however, they canceled a few days prior, suggesting that everyone should instead go to the rally planned by the opposition-minded NGOs, featuring a pro-European march and concert that ran in parallel to the park opening. City Hall thus chose Mix2ra to perform at its concert.
