23-year-old Indian student found dead in Mtkvari River after disappearance in Tbilisi

A 23-year-old Indian student who had been reported missing in Tbilisi has been found dead in the Mtkvari River.

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to incitement to suicide.

Information about the disappearance of 23-year-old Dvanit Rajdip first emerged in Indian media.

Based on Indian media reports, the missing student’s father claimed his son had been involved in a serious dispute with his landlord, who is also an Indian citizen. The father alleged that the student had been subjected to ongoing harassment and that after deciding to change accommodation, the landlord refused to return his deposit.

He further claimed that the landlord later locked the student in a room and confiscated his phone in an attempt to extort money.

Reportedly, the young man was on his way to the airport to return to India when contact with him was suddenly lost during a phone call with his father. He had not been seen since.
