As EU leaders have facilitated a talk following President Donald Trump’s recent decisions to stay distanced from EU security affairs, fears that the U.S. may ‘cut them adrift’ have sparked. Thus, the summit aims to strengthen Europe’s military capabilities and ensure continued support for Ukraine.
As Ukraine faces relentless Russian attacks and increased political pressure from Washington, President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Brussels to attend the summit. The White House has announced an ‘open-ended pause’ on military aid and intelligence sharing, pushing Kyiv toward negotiations to end Moscow’s three-year-old invasion.
“We are very thankful that we are not alone. And these are not just words. It’s very important you made a strong signal to the Ukrainian people,” Zelensky stated.
