The Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), with the support of the UK government is proud to announce the launch of COP29 knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at empowering Georgian media and civil society representatives. This training program will provide journalists, producers, media specialists, and civil society representatives with the tools and information needed to effectively report on COP29 and its significance in the global climate action landscape.
The two-day program will take place from October 19-20, 2024. Participants will have the opportunity to receive in-depth knowledge on the obligations of states under COP29, the role of the media in covering the event, and the importance of civil society engagement in addressing climate challenges. The training is designed to equip attendees with both theoretical and practical knowledge on setting global climate goals, reviewing countries’ progress, and the critical role of media in informing the public on these urgent matters.
With 25 regional and national media and civil society representatives in attendance, the knowledge-sharing sessions will be conducted in an interactive format, offering participants hands-on activities and the chance to engage with international and local experts. Key topics of discussion will include:
- The global significance of COP29 and its objectives,
- The commitments made by nations to combat climate change,
- The role of the media in covering climate issues and COP29,
- Opportunities for media and civil society organisations (CSOs) to contribute to climate resilience.
The program will also provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the current climate situation in Georgia, offering insights into the country’s efforts towards meeting its climate commitments.
