First Vice-Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski has rejected reports linking Georgian Ambassador Tamar Taliashvili’s visit to the US State Department with the unrest in Tbilisi, insisting the meeting was a routine business discussion.
Responding to media claims that Washington expressed “deep concern” over statements by Georgian officials, Volski said the visit was unrelated to the recent events. “Regarding Tamar Taliashvili’s visit to the State Department, it is absolutely unrelated to yesterday’s events or to the activities of those who claim that torturing a person or burning them with a Molotov cocktail is somehow a European standard,” he stated.
Volski further revealed that US President Donald Trump had personally sent a souvenir gift to Taliashvili. “I can confirm that Trump personally sent a souvenir, a gift — including the famous ‘Make America Great Again’ hat,” he said.
Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States, Tamar Taliashvili, was summoned to the US Department of State after ruling party officials accused a foreign embassy of financing unrest in Georgia, Radio Liberty reported.
