Users & Artists Find Their Way to Spotify as the Platform is Celebrating 1 Year in Georgia

Spotify launched in Georgia in February last year and has had a warm welcome from artists and users alike. Over 347 000 playlists have been created by users, and the words that the Georgians tend to name their playlists are “chill”, “rock” and “sad”. Most plays happened on the 4th of February in 2022.

დაგდაგანი is the most played local artist in the country during the year, whilst LOUDspeakers “World in my eyes” is the most streamed song in Georgia by a Georgian artist. But this differs from the Georgian artists that users abroad are listening to. Abroad, the list is being led by pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, who is particularly enjoyed in the US, France, and Germany.

Local genres that are emerging on platform includes lo-fi jazzhop, Georgian folk and Georgian alternative. Georgian alternative artist Nini Nutsubidze is another artist that has had a big surge in listeners since Spotify launched in Georgia, as has indie pop artist saturra.
