Ukraine placed sanctions on three more pro-Russian Georgians in addition to the relatives of the Georgian oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili. Today, Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, published a decree.
Davit Yakobashvili, Alexander Japaridze, and Giorgi Japaridze are the three Georgians on the list of people who have been sanctioned.
The Petrocas Energy Group, which the Anti-Corruption Movement said was responsible for transporting Russian-sanctioned oil into Georgia, was nominally under the authority of Davit Yakobashvili. Ukraine accuses Yakobashvili of providing material or financial assistance for activities that compromise or endanger Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.
The most well-known association with Yakobashvili is his involvement with Rosneft.
The Ukrainian government claims that Alexander Japaridze and Giorgi Japaridze both engage in business activities in areas of the economy that contribute significantly to the Russian Federation’s budget, which is what is funding the conflict in Ukraine. By doing this, they both bear responsibility for activities that jeopardize or threaten Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty or autonomy.
The oil company Eurasia Drilling Company, which has operations in Russia, Iran, and other nations, was founded by Alexander Japaridze.
