Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Mark Clayton, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Georgia today.
Diplomat congratulated Irakli Garibashvili on his appointment to the position of the Prime Minister of Georgia and expressed readiness to continue close cooperation with him, reports the press service of the government administration.
The meeting held at the Government Administration was focused on the close cooperation between the UK and Georgia in various areas including defense and security. The Prime Minister and UK Ambassador highlighted the importance of a successful partnership between the two countries in areas ranging from trade to economy and education.
Discussions were also related to the current political situation. It was noted that against the background of current global and regional challenges, it is vital for parties to channel their efforts and political process towards constructive interaction through dialogue. The UK Ambassador particularly noted and positively acknowledged the Prime Minister’s engagement in the process of dialogue.
Attention was also paid at the meeting on the situation in the region and challenges of the country in terms of security in the occupied territories of Georgia. Diplomat reiterated the unwavering support of the UK towards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
“I had a very good meeting with the Prime Minister. We talked about the breadth and strength of the UK’s relationship with Georgia. Prime Minister knows well of course from his time as Defense Minister the strength of our relationship in defense and security, but this was an opportunity in his new role to talk about the breadth of our relations from trade to education, English language training. Of course we talked about the current political situation and we discussed the importance of sides showing the strength in the current situation. I commended the Prime Minister on his engagement in the dialogue with opposition parties and expressed hopes that this dialogue would lead to fruitful results. We noted the arrival of the EU Moderator shortly. We are looking forward to continued progress on electoral reform and judicial reform, which is absolutely key in seeking a resolution,” noted Mark Clayton after his meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia.
