The Tbilisi City Hall will demolish and rebuild a vehicle bridge on Tetri Dukani Street after structural assessments found the existing crossing unsafe for rehabilitation.
Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced the decision during a municipal government meeting, stating that expert studies confirmed significant damage to the current structure, making reconstruction the only viable option.
The bridge, which spans the Digmuri River and connects Marshal Gelovani Avenue with the Digomi and Vashlijvari districts, is a 64-meter, three-span metal structure. The new project is valued at approximately GEL 4 million and will be implemented by the city’s infrastructure development services. Construction is expected to take around five months.
Authorities confirmed that traffic will be fully restricted in the construction zone for the duration of the works, with alternative routes to be announced separately. The mayor acknowledged that the closure will cause temporary disruption and called for public patience during the process.
The reconstruction follows an earlier attempt by Tbilisi City Hall to rehabilitate the bridge. A tender worth GEL 4.7 million was announced in August 2025 but was later suspended
