From January 23 to 25, students of the Apolon Kutateladze Tbilisi State Academy of Arts undertook an educational practice at Art Villa Garikula, bringing together emerging artists from the departments of Painting, Graphic Arts and Sculpture.
The three-day programme was structured as an intensive creative residency, combining conceptual development, hands-on experimentation and collaborative work. The opening day focused on preparation for the upcoming festival ‘Lupercalia at Art Villa Garikula,’ scheduled to open on February 14 at 3:00 PM. Students formed working groups, developed action plans, conducted conceptual research and carried out spatial analysis, alongside rapid interior sketching exercises.
On the second day, participants moved from planning to production, gathering materials, creating quick studies and translating selected ideas directly into physical works. The day also featured interdisciplinary collaboration, including the formation of an improvised student music quartet, ‘Garikulebi,’ and a spontaneous music workshop. The interaction between sound and visual art encouraged experimentation and supported an etude-based creative process.
The final day was dedicated to reviewing and documenting the completed works. Students professionally photographed their projects and archived the results, consolidating the outcomes of the practice. The experience allowed participants to deepen their understanding of spatial thinking, material exploration and collective creative processes in a professional artistic environment.
