Tbilisi City Hall has issued a statement regarding the discovery of brick structures and ceramic vessels on the road section between Liberty Square metro station and the Georgian National Museum during the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue.
Tbilisi City Hall says after archaeological layers and artifacts were discovered during the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue, the relevant information was provided to the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation. The works will now be carried out in accordance with the recommendations issued by the agency.
“During infrastructure projects carried out or currently underway in the capital, whenever archaeological layers and artifacts are discovered, Tbilisi City Hall closely cooperates with the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation and makes subsequent decisions based on its recommendations.
“Naturally, information about the artifacts discovered during the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue was also immediately provided to the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation. Following the notification, the agency’s relevant specialists responded immediately — they inspected the discovered objects on site and issued appropriate recommendations. Works on the section in question will be carried out in accordance with the recommendations issued,” the statement reads.
